Virtual Meeting Tips/ Lessons Learned

Here is what we learned during this Zoom meeting that you can apply to your virtual events:

  1. Turkeys make good virtual guests and add to the event experience. But supporting local companies on a mission is an even greater reward. Check out Sweet Farms when you have a minute.
  2. Interviewing a sponsor in an educational setting provides a lot of exposure to the sponsor and a lot of value for your event attendees. This is a win-win-win for your stakeholders and your association.
  3. Like in-person events, virtual meetings have unpredictable moments. But, when you mix in fun and learning, the rewarding experience outshines any awkwardness or technical mishaps.
  4. Don’t be too quick to offer a full refund to a sponsor if you’ve cancelled your event. If they won’t accept a credit towards the next event, then consider offering a refund that reflects reasonable costs and any benefits the sponsor has already received, such as advertising.
  5. There is no single best practice for pricing an virtual event. It’s important to consider your budget needs and the situation of your audience when setting a price. And this is the time to experiment with different options and levels.
  6. Your online event has value. Price it accordingly.

We really appreciate you experimenting along with us, it is fun to try out new features each week while providing helpful content.

People sent by their boss to bring back answers. People walking into the room for the first time, trying to understand the codes, language, power dynamics, and opportunities available.

Events in 2036: Three Futures Already Taking Shape

Scenarios like these will be here faster than we think.‍As Convene looks back on the past 40 years, we thought it might be fun to peek ahead to the next 10. What might we be reflecting on at the 50th anniversary? This is a useful practice called foresight visioning. By looking at signals from today and asking what they could mean for our industry and our audiences, we can begin to make more intentional choices about the future we are shaping.Time travel with me to 2036.

Redesigning Events Starts With Asking Better Questions

I spoke on a panel recently about redesigning association events, and I’ve been thinking about one idea that kept coming up in different ways. When an event needs to change, the first question should not be, “What should we add?”
